I’m not an advocate of “tough” teaching either. Kids don’t learn through aggression, anger, or abuse. I’ve never raised my voice to a student, never yelled at them for forgetting homework or put them down over mistakes. They’re kids. Being tough often translates to being unapproachable, which isn’t really what a teacher should be.
