I write around 50k a week- I’m a professional writer. I think that this technique of breaking it down into words is fine, but breaking it down into times writing is better in my opinion. I can write for eight hours a day and do 1,500 words every half hour. Of course, you work up to that- but I think a word count is limiting and encourages stopping once you reach it.
